Is the atmosphere warm, brisk, ambitious, quietly structured, highly social, intensely polished, relaxed but purposeful, or slightly anxious beneath the surface? Schools reveal themselves quickly if you stop looking only at the obvious things. Watch the reception staff. Watch how students move through shared spaces. Do they look confident, hesitant, hurried, cheerful, self-directed? A school’s culture is often visible before anyone starts explaining it.
